Dan Fronefield

I have recently focused on making folding knives using the most unique of materials. My current series of damascus bladed folders includes material from three different meteorites ... making them the oldest knives in the solar system. The meteorites used in my creations are over 4.5 Billion years old; formed during the birth of our solar system!

Meteorites are more rare than any other material on earth. In many cases, the total known weight of a meteorite is less than a kilogram. Some meteorites have constituents that predate the formation of our solar system. A few meteorites contain "star dust," ejected from super novas billions of years before our solar system formed. Some contain amino acids, the building blocks of life. And some, may even include evidence of life on Mars. This is truly an incomparable opportunity to own a fragment of space, crafted to please the eye and hand.

Custom made and specialty knives are available in a variety of blade and handle materials. Superior workmanship in both fixed and folding knives. Contact me for details and pricing.

"Snake I" - A San-Mai meteorite damascus bladed folder featuring nickel damascus bolsters and beautiful snakewood handles. Fully fileworked inside and out, with a 14KT gold blade stop and integral lanyard loop. The thumb-bob is inlaid with meteorite to make this a unique, yet functional tool. The pictures do not even begin to show the how "sharp" this knife looks. (7.5" overall length, 3.25" blade) Photo by PointSeven - (Price: $865)
"Stellar I" - a knife totally immersed in the meteorite theme. Blade is San-Mai meteorite damascus, fully fileworked and acid etched. Handle fabricated of sliced Gibeon meteorite, etched to show the beautiful widmanstatten pattern. This was then inlaid with rare Esquel pallasite meteorite and Renfrow stony meteorite in 14kt gold settings. Albin pallasite meteorite is inlaid into the spine and Renfrow meteorite is inlaid in the thumb-bob. A 14kt gold blade stop enhances the fully fileworked titanium liners and spine. To cap it off, the thumb-bob and gold inlays in the handle form a "shooting star"...one you can hold in your hand. - Photo by PointSeven - (Price: $2335)
"Midnight" - Another version of my all meteorite knife featuring a San-Mai style meteorite damascus blade and meteorite bolsters, handles and inserts. Fully fileworked. On display at the Fernbank Museum of Natural History (Atlanta, GA) March-December 1999.(Price: $1935 - ask about options)
