David Dempsey
I have always liked knives. My father gave me my first knife, a little folder, when I was around five years old. To this day, I can remember the fascination, and thrill it provided me. As fate would have it, I met my knife-making mentor, on my honeymoon, seven years ago. A journey smith in the American Bladesmith Society, at the time, Wally Hayes has been my inspiration, teacher and friend. Wally earned his Master Smith ranking several years' back, and I feel fortunate to have him as my guiding force. I am currently an Aerospace Engineer, and have been in manufacturing for twenty years. I have been involved in knife making for two years. I have actively studied from the old masters of the knife craft, Bob Loveless, Bill Moran, and newer masters, through books, videos and whatever else I could get my hands on. I recently attended a knife course, sponsored by the North Carolina Knifemakers Guild, taught by Ed "Big Daddy KISS" Halligan. His KISS knives are now famous the world over, and his knowledge and expertise of the knife making craft made for a very valuable learning experience. I currently am a stock removal maker. Dependent upon the knives application, and or customer's preference, I grind carbon steels and or varieties of stainless steels. My carbon steel knives are differently heat-treated, to offer a tough blade with great edge hold capabilities. I am also member of the North Carolina Guild. Some of the tactical style blades I create, soon will be featured on "Hammerhead Knives", a tactical knife Internet site. I will also have exclusive offerings on another Internet site, " I Buy Online", in the near future. My goal is to create something that you and I both will be proud of for years to come. My name is displayed on every piece I make, and it has to be something that I would be proud to own, or it will never leave my workbench.
Feel free to call or e-mail me for info, a quote on a knife design of yours or mine or just to talk about knives.
