Ron Claiborne

As far back as I can remember I have had an interest in knives. In school we were allowed to carry them and were trading them like kids today trade baseball cards. My interest grew in high school and that interest changed to switch blades. I would buy one and my mother would find it and put it up. I would go get another one at the pawn shop, which was a wonderland of knives swords and guns. My father was into trading and repairing guns so we went there often to get new guns for dad to restore and get me a new knife. As time went on my interest grew, I wanted a custom knife. I read an article on knives in Gun magazine and was inspired to make one myself. I figured if someone else could, I could, so I did. This was just the beginning of things to happen. I made one then another and another, I couldn't keep them. Each time I built one I wanted to build another...

...and this is the way it's been since I was 18 years old.

This is an endeavor for me that can never be complete. I continually learn new ways and new styles of knives. I have for the last ten years been making damascus steel, this is an everlasting challenge. At this point in my knife career I want to build bowies and daggers and am trying to perfect my skills in this direction.

I am the sole author of my knives. All my work is completely done by me and at my shop. I have the standard tools of the trade, some I have built myself, making them a comfort to use. A lot of the work is completely done by hand, this is time consuming and enjoyable. I offer knives made in high standards of functional working steels, carbon steels, high carbon steels and pattern welded steels. Small and large knives of the 1700 to the 1900 influence. The sheaths are done in my shop by hand of 9 to 10 ounce vegetable tanned leather of the best grades.
